Indian Air Force Job Opportunities
The educational qualification of the candidate will decide what duty to choose in the Air Force. Let that be an officer in the flying, technical or the ground duty. These are the main streams which have sub streams and are as follows.
Flying Branch
Candidates shortlisted for flying branch will be appointed as fighter pilots/ transport pilots/helicopter pilots. You will be working in any of the designations. In order to get into flying branch you need to take CDS (men) exam through AFCAT exam, through NCC. You can also enter from 10+2 by qualifying in NDA/NA exam.
Technical Branch
Students from Mech and Electronics branches can get into this branch. Candidates can get into this branch through AFCAT or through University Entry Scheme (UES).

Ground Duty Branch
Candidates shortlisted for ground duty branch will be allotted in administration, accounts, logistics, education, meteorology departments and doing the work of internal auditing, air traffic controller or fighter controller, managing funds and material resource etc. Candidates who got qualified in AFCAT can get into this branch.

Depending on the educational qualification candidate can choose his/her career in IAF.
Career In Indian Air Force After 12th
Candidates with +2 qualification with Science background can enter IAF by taking National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) examination conducted by UPSC. UPSC conducts this exam twice in a year. Candidates qualified in the NDA/NA exam will have to go through 3 years of rigorous training at NDA, Khadakwasla. After successful completion of training, candidates will be appointed as pilots in any Air Force Stations.
Career In Indian Air Force After 12th Graduation
Candidates who have qualified in AFCAT exam both men and women will go through training and later will be posted into different posts at any Air Force Stations.
Career In Indian Air Force After 12th Engineering
Engineering graduates can also apply for IAF. Candidates qualified in AFCAT and CDS exam will go through diligent training and later will be commissioned as officers. Engineers can join technical branch through UES in the final or pre-final year itself.
Career In Indian Air Force After 12th Post Graduation
Postgraduates have wonderful careers in IAF. They will be appointed mainly in Ground Duty. AFCAT qualifying candidates will be chosen for the jobs.
Pay Scale and Allowances
Candidates who are in their last year of training can receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 21,000. The pay scale of IAF officers per month is:
- Pay scale is Rs. 15,600
- Grade pay is Rs.5, 400
- Military service pay is Rs. 6,000
- Dearness allowance @ 107 percent is Rs. 28,890
- Kit Maintenance Allowance is Rs.500
- Transport Allowance is Rs.3, 200+DA (in major cities) of Rs.1, 600+DA (in other cities)
Additional allowances:
- For Flying Branch Officers, the flying allowance is Rs. 11,250/ month.
- For Technical Branch Officers, the technical allowance is Rs.2, 500/month.
The monthly pay scale of each branch is:
Flying Branch: Rs. 74,264
Technical Branch: Rs.65, 514
Ground Duty Branch: Rs.63, 014
Indian Air Force Airman
Indian Air Force Airman will make certain if all the air and ground operations are going fine. Airman is involved in all the operations in the air base. As per the qualification, you can join in either technical trades or non technical trades.
Eligibility Criteria for IAF Airman
Age limit
For officer posts the age limit is as follows:
Flying Branch
- 16 ½ to 19 years for NDA applying candidates
- 19 to 23 years for graduates in flying branch
- 19 to 23 years for engineer in flying branch
Technical Branch
- 18 to 28 years for graduates in technical branch
- 18 to 28 years for engineers in technical branch
- 18 to 28 years for postgraduates in technical branch
Ground Duty Branch
- 20 to 23 years for graduates in ground duty branch
- 20 to 25 years for engineers in ground duty branch
- 20 to 25 years for postgraduates in ground duty branch
For Airmen
- 16 to 20 years for candidates with matriculation or below qualification
- 16 to 22 years for candidates with intermediate qualification
- 16 to 22 years for candidates with diploma qualification
- 20 to 25 years for candidates with graduate qualification
- 20 to 28 years for candidates with postgraduate qualification
