The examination will be conducted by IIM Bangalore with a partnership with Tata Consultancy Service (TCS). The examination will be conducted in 138 cities in the country. CAT 2016 – Common Admission Test
Eligible candidates who want to appear in the CAT 2016 entrance examination have to register themselves by filling the online application form from the website. The application form will be available form 8th of August 2016 on the website. Candidates have to register for the examination before 22nd of September 2016. CAT 2016 – Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification – IIMs have set certain eligibility criteria to appear in the examination. If a candidate has the eligibility according to IIMs, he or she will be able to appear in CAT 2016. Candidates who don’t have the below eligibility criteria will not be allowed to fill the online application form:
- A candidate should be a bachelor degree holder in any discipline from a recognised University with minimum qualifying marks. Candidates belonging to General category must have 50% marks and candidates from SC, ST, and OBC category must have 45% marks.
- If a candidate has an equivalent qualification affiliated by the Ministry of HRD and AMICE.
- Final year candidates can also apply for the CAT 2016
Examination Pattern
CAT 2016 will be an online examination. There will be three sections in the question paper. Candidates will get 3 hours to complete the examination. Questions will be both objective and descriptive type.
Marking Pattern
Each question has 3 marks each and 1 mark will be deducted for every one wrong answer.
Selection Process
Candidates who qualify the entrance examination will be shortlisted in the first category and after that analysing the marks secured in the CAT 2016, admission criteria, academic qualification scores, etc. candidates will be shortlisted. After that, selected candidates have to appear in a written ability test followed by a group discussion and a personal interview round.
Application Fee – There is an examination fee for the CAT 2016. Candidates belonging to general category have to pay an amount of Rs. 1700/- and candidates belonging to ST, SC, OBC, and PWD category have to pay an amount of Rs. 850/-
Candidates have to pay the application fee while filling the form online. There are four options to pay the application fee.

CAT 2016 – Seat Reservation
There are certain reservation policies set by the IIMs in the country. This policy is set as per the Government of India. Below find the percentage of seats reserved for the categories.
- For Other Backward Classes (Non- creamy layer OBC): 27% Seat Reserved
- For Schedule Caste (SC): 15% Seat Reserved
- For Schedule Tribes (ST):5% Seat Reserved
- For Differently – Abled / PWD: 3% Seat Reserved

Common Admission Test 2016 – Registration Process
The registration session for the CAT 2016 will start from 8th of August 2016 and last date to register for the examination is 22nd September 2016. This year, the registration session is open for 50 days. So, candidates can take their time and register themselves. To apply for the CAT 2016 examination, candidates have to fill the online application form. All the details should be correct and no mistakes should be done. Once you submit the page, you won’t be able to change the process. There are certain eligibility criteria designed for the candidates. Below is the process to apply for the CAT 2016.

- Read all the instructions carefully
- Create a new profile
- Enter all the details like name, date of birth, email address, enter the Captcha, etc.
- After entering all the details, you will get the login ID and password in your email ID
- Login to the page using your login ID and password
- Download the online application from
- Fill the application form with all the personal details like, name, address, marital status, category, father’s name/ guardian’s name, educational qualifications,(10th, 12th, graduation, postgraduate, etc.) Work experience, Programmes, etc.
- Select the cities. You can choose 4 cities for preferences.
- Attach all the scanned documents like the caste certificate, category certificate, passport size photograph, signature, etc.
- After entering all the details, pay the application fee as per your category
