RBI Forms Panel to Study Digital Banking
The RBI has set up an inter-regulatory working group to study issues citing financial technology and digital banking. This is a 13-member working group which will be chaired by Sudarshan Sen, ED at the RBI. The panel will prepare a suitable regulatory response with an aim to increase Fin Tech and digital banking opportunities.
Transactions above 3 lakh were banned
The Supreme Court constituted special investigation team (SIT) has recommended a ban on cash transactions above Rs. 3 lakh. It also suggested capping the cash holdings of companies and individuals at Rs. 15 lakh. The committee was recommended to look into ways to curb generation of black money.
India ranks 152 in the FIFA Rankings
India managed to get 152nd rank in the latest world football rankings issued by FIFA. India ranked 27th in Asia as per FIFA rankings. Argentina made it to first place in the rankings whilst Belgium, Colombia and Germany gained places at second, third, and fourth places.
R K Chaturvedi appointed as CBSE Chairman
Rakesh Kumar Chaturvedi was appointed as new Chairman of CBSE. Chaturvedi is an IAS officer who hails from Madhya Pradesh and has been appointed for five year period in the position. The position of CBSE Chairman has been vacant since December 2014.
Fastest Indian Train is Talgo
The fastest Indian train is Talgo that is manufactured by a Spanish firm that runs with 180 kmph speed. The train runs between Mathura Palwal. It has created a new record breaking the old record set by Gatimaan Express that used to runs at 160kmph. The train runs at a high speed of 220 kmph.
It is World Youth Skills Day today
15th July is observed as World Youth Skills Day (WYSD). This day serves as an opportunity to highlight the importance of youth skills development. The UN General Assembly celebrates the World Youth Skills Day in order to create awareness about the importance of investing in youth skills development. The theme of 2016 is ‘Skills Development to Improve Youth Employment.’
India plans to extent electronic visas to 36 countries
India is planning to make its electronic visas available to the citizens of other 36 countries. This decision was taken after its online service has raised the level in foreign tourist arrivals. The Tourism Ministry is willing to extent the e-tourist visa to countries like Italy, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and the Maldives, among others.
Postal department to deliver river water at the doorstep
The Postal Department has taken a step forward and is going to deliver river water at the doorstep. It is all set to deliver the Krishna river water on the occasion of Krishna Purshkarams. The people can place orders up to August 5th. People can also place the orders through online. The postal department will deliver half a litre bottle of river water at Rs. 30. If needed, the bottles will be delivered through speed post too.
Mumbai square named after Journalist Jyotirmoy Dey
The city square in Mumbai has been named after journalist Jyotrimoy Dey. He was shot dead in the same area exactly five years ago. The place was named ‘J Dey Chowk’.
