India becomes first contributor to UN Trust fund for sexual abuse victims
The United Nations Department of Filed Support (DFS) on 22nd July, 2016 announced that India provided 100000 US dollars for the Trust Fund in support of victims of sexual exploitation and abuse. India becomes the first country to donate for the Trust Fund.
Buddha Rashmi Mani appointed as Director General of National Museum
Renowned archaeologist Buddha Rashmi Mani was appointed as Director General of National Museum on 25th July, 2016. His service period will be for three years or he will stay in the position until he ages 70. His appointment was approved by Appointments Committee of Cabinet. He is a retired Additional Director General of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Haryana notifies Freight Assistance scheme for exporting MSMEs
Haryana Government notified the ‘Freight Assistance Scheme’ for the exporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) located anywhere in the state. It has given time till September 9th this year to submit the claim application on the web portal of the Industries and Commerce department.
Irom Sharmila to end 16-year long fast and participate in elections
The renowned activist, Irom Sharmila who fasted for 16 years in the name of protest against alleged army atrocities in Manipur has decided to end the fast and participate in the coming elections. She will end her fast on August 9th. She also told the court that she wants to marry.
Malaysia airlines flight 370 search suspended
It’s been two years the flight 370 has gone missing with 239 passengers onboard. Ever since the flight went missing all the three countries whose passengers were onboard were searching for it and spend millions of dollars on it. The authorities declared that the search for the missing jetliner will be suspended.
Field trials of oil-degrading bacteria to be launched
The Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute of Plant Sciences, Kozhikode, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) joined hands to launch filed trials of oil-degrading bacteria in Kochi. The scientists will take the trail to establish the oil-degrading properties of three new strains of bacteria, which will lead to development of bioremediation agents to clean up petroleum pollutants from the environment.
Chinar corps becomes first army formation to get 3G network
Chinar corps became the first formation of the Indian Army to get 3G network. The Mobile Cellular Communication System (MCCS) was dedicated to the Chinar Corps by Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh at Srinagar’s Old Air Field Garrison. MCCS is a cellular system and offers enhanced security, and better voice quality.
India loses major arbitration case involving ISRO
India has lost an international arbitration case and may end up paying billion dollars in damages for canceling a deal involving two ISRO satellites. This verdict from the International Tribunal at Hague could further the perception of India as a unreliable recipient of foreign investment, one who is prone to abrupt policy changes.
