Government recasts air India’s Bailout package
Air India Ltd proposal to recast a government approved bailout package was approved by finance ministry. The proposal is directed at saving the airline almost Rs.1,500 crore every year in interest costs. Now the Air India will take a grant of Rs.3,000 crore as a grant. Air India has a debt of Rs. 50,000 crore as of now.
World Hepatitis Day 2016 observed
World Hepatitis Day 2016 was observed across the world on 28th July, 2016 with the theme elimination. The day is observed to raise awareness about hepatitis and to bring real change in preventing, testing and treatment of the disease. The theme of the year is to eliminate hepatitis as a public health treat by 2030.
Lok Sabha passes Lokpal and Lokayuka Bill 2016
The Lok Sabha passed the Lokpal and Lokayukta bill 2016. The bill was passed without any discussions. The bill seeks to amend the existing Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013 that provides Lokpal and Lokayukat statutory backing to inquire into allegations of corruption against public sector departments and other related matters.
India sings $1 billion deal with US for acquiring four Poseidon-8I aircraft
India has signed one billion dollar deal with the US defence and aerospace major Boeing for acquiring four long-range maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft, Poseidon-8I. The first aircraft will be delivered in 50 months. The acquisition will be enhancement of the Indian Navy as the country has been building up its naval surveillance capabilities.
Compensatory Afforestation Bill passed
The Parliament has passed the Compensatory Afforestation Fun Bill, 2016 with the Rajya Sabha’s approval. The bill will help in establishment of funds at the Centre and state level for compensatory afforestation. In the name of the bill, states will get 42 thousand crore rupees for afforestatoin and related activities.
Union cabinet approves setting up of AIIMS in Bhatinda
The Union Government approved the establishment of All India of Medical Science (AIIMS) at Bhatinda in Punjab under the Pradhan Manri Swasthya Suraksha (PMSSY). It will provide super specialty health care to the population while creating a large pool of doctors and other health workers in these regions that can be available for primary and secondary level institutions being created under National Health Mission (NHM).
Union Cabinet increases limit for foreign investment in stock exchanges from 5% to 15%
The Union Cabinet has given green signal to raise foreign shareholding limit from 5% to 15% in Indian Stock Exchanges. This increased limit is for a stock exchange, depository, banking company, insurance company and commodity derivative exchange.

The International Olympic Committee will launch the Olympic Channel on August 21st. This Olympic channel will connect the world of audience with the Olympic movement.
