WEF India Economic Summit in Delhi on October 6-7
World Economic Forum (WEF) will host its annual India Economic Summit on 6-7 in New Delhi which would be attended by over 500 business and political leaders including top policymakers and CEOs. The event will be held under the theme of ‘Fostering an inclusive India through Digital Transformation’.
Rajasthan becomes first state to approve sewage and waste water policy
Rajasthan has become the first state in the country to approve sewage and waste water policy. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has approved this policy in Jaipur. All district headquarters, heritage cities and cities in the state which have more than one lakh population will be included under this policy. It is mandatory for every house in the state to follow sewage system.
Pema Khandu expands cabinet
Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu has expanded his cabinet by adding 10 ministers. The list includes former speaker Nabam Rebia. The newly appointed leader has taken the oath under the administration of Governor Tathagata Roy. The ministers sworn in are Tanga Byaling, Rajest Tacho, Nabam Rebia, Honchun Ngandam, Wangki Lowang, Kamlung Mossang, Tapang Taloh, Kumar Waii, Takam Pario and Jomde Kena.
Six new IITs get parliament nod
The Parliament has given a green signal to establish six new IITs across the country. It has passed the Institutes of Technology Bill, 2016 in the Rajya Sabha. The six IITs will be established in Palakkad (Kerala), Goa, Dharwad (Karnataka), Bhilai (Chattisgarh), Jammu and Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh).
Neyveli Lignite plans to buy 1200MW Raghunathpur Thermal Power Project
Neyveli Lingnite (NLC) is planning to acquire a 1200MW Raghunathpur Thermal Power Project (RTPP) of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The acquisition will be done via joint venture company of NLC and Damodar Valley Corporation. RTPP consists of two units of 600MW each.
BHEL commissions 500 MW Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh
Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) has commissioned the second 500 MW thermal unit at Marwa Thermal Power Station in Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh whilst the first unit of Marwa TPS was also commissioned by BHEL earlier.
Pushpa Kamal Dahal elected as new Prime Minister of Nepal
Maoist Party Chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Nepal. He was elected with 363 favour votes and 210 opposing votes. He has been elected for the second as the prime minister of Nepal. He has serviced earlier as PM 7 years ago.
Angela Ruggiero appointed IOC’s Athletes Commission new chair
American ice hockey Olympic champion Angela Ruggiero has been appointed as the new chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Athletes’ Commission. She has replaced Claudia Bokel. Angela is a former ice hockey player who has played for team USA.
Odisha government recruits transgenders as jail warders
The Odisha government has decided to recruit transgender persons as jail warders as per the direction of the Supreme Court. A letter has been sent to the Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission to take necessary steps in this regard.
