Supreme Court appointed green panel recommends high pollution cess
Supreme Court appointed green pane Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) has recommended high pollution cess of up to 25% on the cost of diesel cars above 2, 000 etc. The Environment Pollution Prevention and Control Authority reasoned that imposition of steep cess was imperative to control air pollution in the national capital by making diesel vehicles cost prohibitive.

Rajasthan introduces minimum wages for part time workers
Rajasthan was entitled as the first state in the country to introduce minimum wages for part time workers in the state. As per the very recent notification of Labour Department, it is now mandatory to pay 50% of the minimum wage to the person who works less than four hours a day.
Myspeed app launched to track mobile data speed
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a new app called Myspeed app. TRAI will now start a consultation process to fix quality of service rules for mobile data, including the average data speed for operators. The new app launched by it will now measure real-time internet speeds received by customers.
Named communist leader Romesh Chandra passes away
Named communist leader and former World Peace Council president Romesh Chandra passed away in Mumbai. He is now 94 and he received many awards for his contribution in this field. He received Lenin Peace Awards and also worked as editor of CPI’S central organ New Age.
India was positioned in 91st position in the list of Networked Readiness Index
India has dropped down and made its name in the 91st place in the global list of countries in readiness for transition to a digitized economy and society. The annual Networked Readiness Index was released by Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF).
Almost 30 percent of our land is undergoing degradation
As per a recent study, it is said that nearly 30% of the country’s total geographical area is undergoing degradation. This study was initiated by Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change was led by Indian Space Research Organization and 19 other institutes. During this study, the satellites images of eight years were analyzed.
Union cabinet has approved interest subvention scheme for farmers
The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Interest Subvention Scheme for farmers for the functional year 2016. The government has commenced an amount of Rs. 18, 276 crore for the scheme. This scheme will help farmers to get short term crop loans that are payable within one year up to Rs. 3 lakhs at only 4% interest per year.
Bombay, Madras and Calcutta High Courts gets new names
On Tuesday, The Union Cabinet has approved the new names for Madras, Bombay, and Calcutta High Courts to reflect the alterations in the official nomenclature of these cities to Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata respective.
