Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya University which is also known as Indore University it is an university that which is operated by the state of Madhya Pradesh at Indore in the country India. It was named after the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar which is belonging to the Holkar dynasty of the Marathas. Devi Ahilya University or the Indore University was established in the year 1964 by an act of the legislative assembly of the state Madhya Pradesh. His Excellency Dr. Zakir Hussain then the Vice President of the India inaugurated the university in the year 1964. The jurisdiction of the university was limited to the district of Indore. In the year 1988 this university was renamed after the Holkar Maharani named ‘Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar’ of the Maratha empire as follows Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. The word vishwavidyalaya is in Hindi for the university after that the university is called Devi Ahilya University or Indore University.
During the reorganization of the universities its authority was extended over to the Indore division which spans over the seven districts. The managerial group of the NAAC has awarded a four star status to the university in the year 2001 and also has won the centre of the excellence award by government of Madhya Pradesh state. In the year 2014 the National Assessment and the Accreditation Council accredited the university as an A grade university.
