IBPS Clerk Job Profile

Candidates who have been shortlisted for IBPS Clerk post will need to go for probation period of six months. This is the time when you are considered as temporary employee and after the successful completion of probation period you will be confirmed as a permanent employee of the respective bank.
IBPS Clerk Job Profile
Clerk is the first person that the customers will reach out to in first place. So, clerks will be trained in various fields at the time of probation period.
Single Window Operator (SWO)
SWO will handle duties like receipt of cheques, drafts, cash passing and cash payment.
Head Cashier (HC)
The duty of Head Cashier is to keep a track of bank’s cash, bank keys etc. HC is the head of cash department.
Special Assistants (SA)
Special Assistant’s will take care of checking the work of other clerks and sub staff. SA will head the concerned department/section.
Universal Teller (UT)
The duties of Universal Teller are to receive cheques, withdrawal forms, update pass books, verify customer’s account details, signature etc. UT is also responsible to promote the products and services of the bank to the customer.
Agricultural Assistants
Along with carrying clerical work, AA’s will carry agriculture related duties.

IBPS Clerk Salary
Along with basic pay, the clerks will receive allowances depending on their post.
Basic pay
- The pay scale of clerk is Rs.11, 765 to Rs. 42,020.
- On successful completion of one year, the basic pay will be hiked by specific amount like Rs.400/-
- On successful completion of two years, there will be 500 increment for next three years.
IBPS Clerk Allowances
Dearness Allowance
DA is changed every 3 months. It is changed as per Consumer Price Index (CPI). The DA will rise or go down depending on CPI.
House Rent Allowance
- HRA depends on the place you are posted as rents depend on the area.
- If you are posted to metro cities HRA will be 8.50% of basic pay.
- If you are posted to cities with population more than 5 lakhs, HRA will be 7.50% of basic pay.
- If you are posted in any other metro cities, HRA will be 6.50% of Basic pay.
Medical Allowance
MA is paid annually and is fixed to Rs.20000.
After the 10th Bipartite Wage Settlement of 2015, the pay scale of the clerk will see a hike from Rs.21,339 to Rs.23,117.
IBPS Clerk Promotion
- As Clerk is the staring designation at any bank, there will be lots of opportunities for the clerks to get promoted.
- After few years, you will be eligible to take promotional exam. On clearing the exam, you will be promoted as Trainee Officer (TO).
- After TO, the next designation is PO and so on.
