RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) Job Profile, Pay Scale, Career : Railway Recruitment Board has recently released a notification inviting applications for the post of ALP Assistant Loco Pilot. This post was previously recognized as Assistant Driver by RRB. RRB invited application from eligible and interested candidates. Today we have come up with the job profile of Assistant Loco Pilot. The job of Assistant Loco Pilot is quite challenging. Candidates have to pay much attention in order to execute the work properly without leaving way for raising issues. RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) should assist the Loco Driver. His job is to:
- Fine tuning the locomotive
- Calling out single once sighted
- Attending to minor repairs of the locomotive
- Regularly checking the efficiency of the locomotive
The main task of ALP is to travel more, but RRB will provide allowances in the name of running allowances based on the monthly kilometers traveled by ALP in the locomotive.
Selection procedure of RRB ALP
Candidates need to satisfy certain criteria in order to be recruited as RRB ALP. Candidates should satisfy age limit as well as educational qualification set by RRB to get the job. The minimum age of the candidates should be 18 and maximum age should be 30. The selection is based purely on the performance of the candidates in the written as well as aptitude test. Candidates who got qualified in written exam will be promoted to take aptitude test. Candidates who made it to aptitude test also will be given the job. There will be document verification done before appointing the candidates into the job.

RRB ALP Pay Scale
RRB provides very good pay scale for the candidates who got shortlisted for the job. Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) will get a pay scale of Rs. 5200 to 20200/-. They grade pay will be around Rs.1900/-. The initial pay will be Rs. 5830/- and total pay will be Rs. 7730/-. ALPs along with receiving the pre-defined pay scale, will also receive benefits and allowances depending on various conditions. The allowances include:
- DA on Total pay
- Running allowance (depending on the kilometers travelled)
Transport allowance - Running allowance
- House rent allowance (in case no quarters is provided)
Under New Pension Scheme, there will be a 10% deduction from total salary.

RRB ALP Career and progression
Candidates who got shortlisted for Loco Pilot Recruitment will have to go through training during RRB ALP training session. In the training sessions, candidates will be trained well in terms of locomotives. In the training period candidates need to perform various duties. On offering good services, the career progression of the candidate will be like this:
- Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP)
- Senior Assistant Loco Pilot (Sr. ALP)
- Loco Pilot (LP)
- Power Controller/Crew Controller/Loco Foreman (Loco Supervisor)
After getting promoted as Local Pilot (LP), the candidate can pursue career like Power Controller, Crew Controller, and Loco Foreman. In that designation the person will receive good allowances and can see good progression in career.
