Ex-CJI HL Dattu chose as new Chairman of NHRC
- Union Government has chosen previous Chief Justice of India (CJI) H L Dattu as new Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). He will succeed Mr. K.G. Balakrishnan who had demitted office after his five-year term finished in May 2015. From that point forward Justice C Joseph is working as the acting Chairman.
- He was chosen by the powerful board of trustees headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The board of trustees likewise included Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha P J Kurien and pioneer of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad. His name will be sent to the President Pranab Mukherjee for his endorsement.
